Dr. Kahn-Rose is a native of Southern California. He received his B.S. from the University of California at Irvine, his M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, and his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the Sue Golding Graduate School of Albert Einstein for his research on the hormonal influences on memory. He has published over 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has presented papers at a number of scientific society meetings.

He trained in Psychiatry at the University of Chicago, where he completed a residency and fellowship in Biological Psychiatry. He remained on the faculty at the University of Chicago as an Assistant Professor. In 1988, he joined the faculty of UCLA as well as the West L.A. Veteran's Administration Medical Center, where he was, among other things, the Co-Director of the UCLA Alzheimer's Disease and Memory Disorders Center from 1991–1993.

He is currently an Associate Clinical Professor in the Neuropsychiatric Institute of UCLA. He has been in private practice since 1993 with a subspecialization in geriatric psychiatry, and has has held the position of medical director for several inpatient geriatric psychiatry units as well as a number of skilled nursing facilities in the San Fernando Valley.
