David Middlemas is currently a Professor in the Athletic Training and Sports Medicine Program at Montclair State University (NJ) where he spearheaded the development, and accreditation of the first Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training in New Jersey. Dr. Middlemas earned his bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences and Mathematics from Muhlenberg College (1977), a certificate in Athletic Training from the Pennsylvania State University (1979), Master of Arts in Physical Education with an emphasis in Sport Medicine from the Kearney State College in (1984), and a Doctor of Education in Educational Statistics and Measurement with a minor in educational administration specializing in higher education from Rutgers University (1999). Dr. Middlemas is certified in Critical Incident Stress Management (CCISM) and serves as a member of the Athletic Trainers' Society of New Jersey Critical Incident Stress Management team, as well as being trained in Advanced Assisting Individuals in Crisis and Advanced Group Crisis Intervention. He is an instructor in both individual and group critical incident stress management courses. He is also a subject matter expert for first aid and CPR for the National Safety Council. Clinically, Dr. Middlemas held a position as a high school athletic trainer at Wayne Valley High School in Wayne, New Jersey, from 2009 to 2017. Dr. Middlemas spearheaded the CISM/peer support program of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (ATs Care). He served as the first chair of the ATs Care Commission. Dr. Middlemas was awarded as Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer from the National Athletic Trainers' Association, and is an inductee into the Athletic Trainers' Society of New Jersey Hall of Fame. He has also received the Dan Libera Award for Outstanding Service to the Board of Certification, Inc., and the Distinguished Service Award from the ATSNJ. Dr. Middlemas was also awarded the American Red Cross Certificate of Merit for saving a life.
