Description
Doctor Brown's work on the effects of built environments on human movement has resulted in favorable outcomes for his clients in over 90% of the more than 50 cases on which he has been involved. His spatial network methodology addresses how human cognition handles spatial complexity to reveal and quantify underlying spatial patterns. The American Real Estate Society gave him awards for his manuscripts showing its research applications. It's been successfully reviewed in court for Daubert compliance. He's provided expert witness services on First Amendment public forum disputes, eminent domain access takings, premises liability cases into eight figures and the largest architectural copyright infringement cases in the US. His consulting services focus on reviving problem malls, main street redevelopment, problem urban public space and parks, peddling and vending, historic public buildings and places, office and health care workplaces, architectural design competitions and regenerating a UK medieval city, retail locations for a Dutch new town, a hospitality project on the Russian Pacific coast . He previously taught architecture at ASU, the University of Colorado and as Adjunct Professor in the IIT Architecture PhD program. He was Head of the Real Estate Management and Development Group at Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands. He's given many conference presentations on three continents and published over 40 articles in peer-reviewed scientific and scholarly journals, professional and art publications. His book, Access, Property and American Urban Space was published by Routledge/Taylor & Francis in 2016. His article, From Savannas to Settlements: Exploring Cognitive Foundations for the Design of Urban Spaces "has done particularly well and is in the 90th percentile: it's in the top 10% of all research outputs ever tracked by Altmetric."
