Description
Dr. Cannell has been practicing as a Physician Assistant/Associate for 19 years with the last 17 in Emergency Medicine. Additional experience in Orthopedics, Urgent Care, Internal Medicine, Hospitalist Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine. He has been recognized by the AAPA as a Distinguished Fellow due to tiredness dedication to the PA profession and years of serving his community. He has served as an adjunct clinical instructor in Emergency Medicine at Tufts School of Medicine since 2015 and has been a community Emergency Medicine PA Educator since 2007. He has spent the last 5 years also serving as a legal consultant/expert witness on both the plaintiff and defense sides in addition to full-time clinical duties. Dr. Cannell has been a lead PA in the Emergency Department and Co-Chief of APCs all within South Shore Health System. He can testify himself for PAs and NPs as well as provide malpractice case merit review, expert witness, deposition, and expert testimony. Dr. Cannell reviews cases objectively with an eye on the standard of care. He reviews depositions and submitted medical records, reviews and prepares affidavits of merit for medical negligence claims along with assisting the attorney with suggested questions and avenues to pursue during discovery. He will prepare expert opinion at the request of counsel along with video depositions. Completed Leadership and Management Training with a Certificate from the Center of Healthcare Leadership and Management (CHLM) through the AAPA. Advanced training from the Institute on Healthcare Improvement: Triple Aim, Quality and Safety, Healthcare Leadership, Healthcare Management, Quality Improvement, Advanced Communication, and Patient-Centered Care. FEMA advanced training for Healthcare Providers. Healthcare Law training regarding regulatory compliance and auditing including the broad application of knowledge in different therapeutic areas. S ED utilization review, population management, and healthcare utilization review. Anticoagulation, Antimicrobial, and P&T committee member responsible for researching and maintaining evidence-based, up to-date-data to create safe and effective medical management in a large healthcare system. Participant in various ED and Health System committees.
