Description
Dr. Kate Cohen is a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist who works at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital. Kate received her undergraduate education at Barnard College. She majored in biochemistry and earned Magna Cum Laude with a distinction in research. She then attended medical school at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where she graduated with distinction in education and research. She was inspired by a mentor to pursue a career as an anesthesiologist, directly relieving people's pain and suffering on a daily basis. She completed her four-year anesthesiology residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Then, she pursued advanced subspecialty training in cardiothroacic anesthesiology. During this fellowship, Kate honed her ability to care for critically ill patients with severe heart and lung disease. She was recruited to work as faculty at Massachusetts General Hospital where her academic niche became the management of parturients with congenital or acquired cardiopulmonary disease. She also served as a leader in perioperative risk stratification and optimization. Her current practice of anesthesiology includes caring for a variety of complex patients undergoing many different types of surgery including obstetric procedures. She is an expert in echocardiography and point of care ultrasound interpretation. She provides intravenous lines, arterial lines, central venous lines, neuraxial anesthesia, peripheral nerve blocks and endotracheal intubations on a daily basis. She uses many classes of medications for her patients daily. These include hypnotics, opioids, anti-inflammatories, alpha-2 agonists, anti-emetics, NMDA receptor antagonists, antihypertensives, pressors, hypoglycemics, antibiotics and local anesthetics. Dr. Cohen very much looks forward to talking with you about patient cases.
