I am a Professor Emeritus of Pharmacotherapy with over 30 years of pharmaceutical experience and several years as an expert witness, as well as licensed pharmacist in California, Idaho, and Washington. My research and professional expertise include chronic pain treatment; opioid and illicit substance misuse, abuse, and overdose; psychopharmacology in mental health; serum/urine/saliva drug/substance monitoring and assessment; adverse drug reactions; medication interactions; dietary and herbal supplements; complementary and alternative medicine.

I am a Fellow of the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists and the American Society of Consultant Pharmacist. I am a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacist's (ACCP) Pain and Palliative Care Practice and Research Network (PRN).

I have been involved in multiple expert cases across the USA primarily involving chronic pain, narcotic use, illicit substance abuse, opioid overdose, urine / hair / nails drug testing, medication reactions and interactions, FDA Controlled Substances Act, and opioid prescribing / dispensing regulations. Some example cases include:

-Urine methamphetamine assessment (false positives due to legitimate medication use) in an elderly patient residing in a skilled nursing facility.

-Urine marijuana assessment in parents for a child custody case

-Inappropriate dosing of transdermal fentanyl in an elderly woman with cancer

-Physician's and pharmacist's involvement in hydrocodone and oxycodone pill mill case

-Urine and hair alcohol testing in a child custody case

-Inappropriate prescribing of multiple opioids (transdermal fentanyl, morphine, hydromorphone, oxycodone) for the treatment of post-op low back surgery pain in a chronic pain patient.

-Role of benzodiazepines in suicide

-Accidental death from prescribing opioids, benzodiazepines, and muscle relaxants in an elderly man with COPD
