Dr. Phillip Nye is double board certified in both sleep medicine and anesthesia with the American Board of Anesthesiology. He became a sleep medicine specialist after witnessing various complications associated with undiagnosed/untreated sleep apnea in patients undergoing elective surgeries. He has an interest day-time sleepiness, (hypersomnia, common in patients with untreated obstructive sleep apnea) which can delay cognitive function and result in slow motor response time. As an anesthesiologist he is also a strong proponent for opioid sparing and regional anesthesia techniques.
Dr. Nye completed an ACGME accredited fellowship training program in sleep medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He is trained to diagnose and treat all sleep disorders in both adults and children. He is the Founder and medical director of Anesthesia & Sleep Medicine Services of Florida. He has been in private practice for the past 16 years. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (FASA), a prestigious honor in the specialty as it indicates a superior level of service, leadership, advocacy and education that distinguish Fellows from their peers. He is a highly experienced community based physician, providing health care services since 2006. He has given presentations on various topics including: postoperative complications associated with sleep apnea, mental health and sleep deprivation. He has presented research work at American Academy of sleep Medicine, Society of Anesthesia and sleep Medicine and the Virginia Academy of Sleep Medicine Conference.
In the past, Dr. Nye has served on advisory committees for both the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Society of Anesthesia and Sleep Medicine. He is also an active member of the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. His interests include: Ambulatory setting patient safety, neurocognitive effects of sleep disordered breathing, central sleep apnea and sleep-related parasomnias.
